Family, food and
full bellies
Freia’s passion for eating well began in Hong Kong, where she grew up a curious observer, exposed to the region's incredible customary practices and knowledge of food as medicine.

“I loved the therapeutic, as well as the gastronomic approach to food: the warming congee in winter to ward off seasonal colds, fresh sugar cane juice and cooling tofu in the summer; the heady fragrances of the tea shops; drawers and baskets full of tea from every region, each with their own story.”

At the age of 10, Freia’s father was diagnosed with cancer, he was 50.

“Following his first of a few unsuccessful surgeries, I remember going to the library and taking it upon myself to find out how I could cure my lovely dad through healthier living, but he did smoke like a chimney and loved a beer or ‘medicinal whisky’, so he wasn't the most cooperative client! Information was sparse and not presented in such a way that a child could make much sense of, but it did ignite in me a belief that in whatever way we can, taking responsibility for our own health might just be a good idea.”

Freia went on to train as a chef in Paris and is acknowledged as one of Rick Stein’s Food Heroes in his BBC book (Rick Stein's Guide To The Food Heroes Of Britain, published by BBC Books 2003).

“Paris blew me away with the attention to detail in technique, incredible loyalty to recipes and process, and the importance of making time to eat well.”

After working extensively in the world of food, Freia found herself cooking more and more for people with specific and very different dietary needs; learning how what we eat, as well as the way we eat, impacts our physical and mental health.

In 2018, Freia’s sister was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, aged 58. This was a catalyst for Freia to hone her nutrition skills and four years later she'd completed her course in Naturopathic Nutrition and is now a registered nutritional therapist working in Sussex.

Freia knows first hand how easy it is to put our own health on the back burner only to end up with that ‘walking through treacle’ feeling. She is especially passionate about supporting people who have lost their way with food, have low energy, grumbling tummies and need someone to be their cheerleader to implement change.

“It is personalised advice, care and gentle sustainable changes that can positively impact every area of our lives and this is what I can give my clients.

“With all the knowledge that I have gained around the value of eating well I keep coming back to the simple practices of mindful eating, as well as nurturing ourselves and our relationship with food. It's this relationship that can be our teacher; it can tell our story and guide us on our path forward.”

Freia is a very proud mother and grandmother, loves beach combing, exploring and developing new recipes.
